What’s Langres like? The cheese is washed continually in brine and annatto to give it a distinctive orangey/ brown rind. Rich and supple with a melt in the mouth texture; a beautifully complex cheese with a dip in the top to add your champagne.
Where’s it from? The plateau of Langres in the region of the Champagne Ardenne.
Packaging: This AOC UNPASTEURISED cheese is imported from Champagne. Petit Langres comes as a wrapped whole round cheese of 180g.
You can buy Langres as part of The French Selection Box. The box reflect the fineness of French cheese making and the huge difference in tastes even in neighbouring regions. You can also buy Langres in The New Mum’s Box of Indulgence.
Also available in The Continental Cheese Hamper. The beautiful wicker hamper contains a selection of the finest artisan cheeses from France and Italy including the nutty and savoury Pecorino, the brie-style (but creamier) Chaource AOC and the washed-rind classic Taleggio DOP. It also contains biscuits and chutneys.
Wondering if you can eat the rind? Here’s the answer…
The gentle raisin fruit, cinnamon spice and mellow tannins of an aged red like the Gran Villa work in harmony with this potent beauty. Or be daring and flip the cap on the 16 Little Black Pigs Shiraz to see how the blackcurrant fruit and peppery spice works out.
On a cheeseboard, Langres is excellent with caramelised fig and chilli rhubarb, or with Tracklements Sticky Fig Relish. The plump figs are soaked in spiced vinegar before being gently cooked with rich, dark sugar.
