Mother’s Day Cheese Gifts don’t get much better than this! The Best Mum in the World Box is an ideal gift for when you want to tell your mum ‘thanks’. The box contains:
Perl Wen (200g) is an organic gem made in deepest west Wales with a luxurious texture and heavenly taste.
Soumaintrain AOC (400g) (UNPASTEURISED) is pure French style in a circle. An intriguing orange rind with a creamy paste – unbelievably gorgeous!
Blue d’Auvergne AOC (150g) is a silky soft blue from south-central France. Large blue cavities run through it to create a unique and wonderful taste.
Golden Cross Log 225g (UNPASTEURISED) is one of the finest goat’s cheese on the planet that’s as useful in the kitchen as on a cheeseboard.
The box also includes a packet of Peter’s Yard Spelt and Fig Biscuits (105g) (not pictured)
Approximate total weight: 1080g
Other gift ideas include The New Mum’s Box of Indulgence and The Gorgeous Gift Box for Her. The Classic Tasting Box is the perfect introduction to artisan cheeses.
Wine & Beer Pairings:
Bleu d’Auvergne is less salted than other blue cheese with a creamier, buttery flavour, and a more moist texture. This classic French blue needs a wine that can work with both elements. The Italian Garganega with its rich decedent flavours and tropical fruit notes is a surprising hit!
Maine Island Trail Ale is a light IPA with a bright malt body and bold notes of citrus and pine. It conjures images of the great outdoors which is why it deserves a Welsh cheese like Perl Wen. The soft lemony centre complements the cirtrusy ale. Both are light and delicate enough to balance each other out.
Recipes:
If there’s a better combination than Goat’s cheese, beetroot and walnut we’re yet to find it. Golden Cross works particularly well with the savoury walnuts. Serve with French bread for a lovely light lunch.
Golden Cross is also used in these cheese tarts – easy to make with ready-rolled puff pastry.

Jonathan Drew –
When the box arrived we were disappointed to see one of the cheeses as described hadn’t made it – though to be fair this was due to the Brexit trade chaos. But as a nice gesture Pong Cheese had thrown in some extra crackers for free.
However, when we tasted the cheeses all concerns over the missing cheeses vanished. Each of the cheeses was different and delicious in its own way and the fact that Pong had clearly thought carefully about what they substituted (and not just looked for a cheap substitute) made a big difference. My mum, who was the star guest at the tasting, thoroughly enjoyed the blue cheese. And so did we. If there were more than 5 stars, we’d be giving that rating! We have already been back to try other selections.
Big Cheese –
Thank you so much Jonathan – we’re delighted you enjoyed the cheeses and the replacement.
