Vacherin Mont D'Or in a Box

Vacherin Mont D'Or in a Box

Preheat oven to 180C.

Cut the garlic clove in half and smear over the top of the Vacherin Mont D'Or. Make half a dozen holes into the skin of the Vacherin Mont D'Or and dribble the white wine into the holes. Bake for about 15 mins in the oven or until the top feels soft to the touch and the cheese underneath is oozy!!

We suggest dipping in hunks of crusty baguette, celery sticks, potato wedges or salami for a sociable starter for 4! NB: Vacherin Mont D'Or is only available when in season which is from October to March.

(Serves 4)

1 Vacherin Mont D'Or Buy Cheese

In the Jura, where we had it last week, they served it with a plate of charcuterie, cornichons, boiled new potatoes, salad and crusty bread. Am cooking the one we bought home this evening. Bon appetit!

Having this for dinner tonight. Rather than white wine we are using schnaps. I was inspired as today at work we were given the chance to order 500g for 7,95euros. I took 2 as well as some other cheese from the Jura region.
Paris. France.

I love this dish, I tried it many years ago when I was in France and to be honest I did not know that they did it at Borough Market, not that I go to mekrats very often. The thought of melted cheese over potatoes, sausages and pickles hmmmm; real peasent cooking at its best. If you are not going to make it for me, then I know where I will have to go hahaha.

Do you re-wrap the cheese and place the top back on the packaging before heating it in the oveen ?

Had this for supper tonight with new potatoes, french bread, salami and baby gherkins. Absolutely yummy! Cold white wine is an absolute must.
